Urban Designer, With Mogavero Notestine Associates, the Local Government Commission, and Glatting Jackson, 2008.
I managed this project as the urban designer of the lead consultant for the City of Chico and the Chico Avenues Neighborhood Association. This established neighborhood just north of downtown Chico is known for its elegant parkway and its traditional neighborhood feel, but it also suffered from a lack of infrastructure, open space, and several underutilized parcels.
We concentrated our design work into a week-long public charrette to study the neighborhood, collect data, meet with community members, and hold open-house design sessions. I helped facilitate sessions, while also producing the overall project framework plan and the large opportunity site plans. I was also responsible for assembly of the final document. The final plan received 2008 Neighborhood Planning Award from the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the American Planning Association, and was also presented at the 2008 California Redevelopment Association conference.
